How to improve your writing skills

In my last post I wrote about, “the importance of writing down your goals, and I hope the article helped you alot, right?

So in order to write down your goals, you need to learn how to, write right?  I remember when I was in High school ( Maphutha Secondary School) I didn’t care about my writing style, my essays were so bad and incompetent  without direction  until I met Mr Makadikoa who taught me how to write essays, now I am what I am because of him. Most of the time I didn’t know what to write. Albert Einstein, ” if you can’t explain it to a six- year old, you don’t understand it yourself.? Before you start writing, take a moment to mentally explain the concept to the six-year old who lives inside your head( we all have one, don’t we?)

In this article I will discuss about, “how to improve your writing skills,” and become a better writer. Because I know that everyone is a writer, you’re a writer but you don’t know that, you write alot, even if you don’t think of yourself as a writer, you put thoughts into text more often than you realize. You write homeworks. You write class works. You write alot  of emails. You post of social media. And you message your friends and family on Facebook, Twitter , WhatsApp  etc..I can see you are smiling now, because I told you that you’re a writer, right? In other words we’re surrounded by writing. Writing doesn’t mean you have to enroll in a prestigious creative writing program at the University.

Here I have tips and Warning on how to improve your writing skills.

If you want readers to breathe life into your writing so that they get a powerful experience from it, then you must breathe experience into your words as you write. I don’t know why it should be the case that if you experience what you’re writing about- if you go to the bamboo- it increases the chances of the reader’s experiencing the bamboo. But that’s the way it seems to work.”Peter Elbow, from the book writing with   power. You are free to write about anything that comes to your mind, to unlock your brain. What you write is strictly private, so relax the control and allow your hands to write whatever they want. If you get stuck and have nothing to write about, you can repeat the last word or type nonsense until the idea pops into your mind. You can write blank blank blank blank blank until idea pops into your mind. I have tried it many times and it worked and now I’m better writer because of free writing  techniques.Free writing techniques helps to develop ideas. And writing is different mode of thinking.

Tips to write good.

Don’t repeat yourself, or say again what you have said before

Don’t  use commas that are not necessary

Avoid alliteration.Always

Proofread carefully to see if you any words out

Profanity sucks

Understatement is always best

The adverb always follows the verb

passive voice is to be avoided

If you’re a learner or student read a lot and write a lot and get out of your comfort zone. Anders Ericsson- “In pretty much any area of human endeavor, people have a tremendous capacity to improve their performance, as long as they train in the right way.”Think before you write, writing is important.

I’ve been trying different techniques to improve my vocabulary but it seem that my techniques didn’t work. I easily forgotten words and their meanings. Sometimes I read without understanding of the sentence which discourage me. Perhaps I should used your techniques and start afresh. I like reading very much. I started reading book when I was at school and I bought different kind of books from bookshops. I’ve never thought that one day I’ll meet a young men who have the same passion like me and who think reading can develop and transform life. I am inspired Phil.
